Fieldwork underway in Peru
Dr George Lau and his archaeology team have been in northern Peru since the end of June preparing for the first summer of fieldwork for the Rise of Divine Lordships in the Ancient Andes project, an AHRC and National Science Foundation (USA) collaboration.
Partnering with SRU alumnus, Dr David Chicoine, Dr Lau's project investigates the early record of divine lordship as part of the ancient polities and systems of authority in ancient Peru. His previous work independently observed evidence of political centralisation. The current project aims to document more thoroughly the process of centralisation (AD 1-200).
Fieldwork is now underway in two adjacent areas of northern Ancash: districts of Moro (Nepeña coastal midvalley) and Cabana (highland Pallasca).
