Grant success to fund research workshop on Peru
The SRU are very pleased to announce that Dr George Lau (Reader, Arts of the Americas) was awarded a Newton-Paulet Researcher Links grant, to convene a research workshop and related activities on: “Paleoclimate, Water Use and Environmental Phenomena in Ancient Peru and their Contemporary Impacts”. An international collaboration with Dr Gabriel Prieto (Co-organiser, Universidad Nacional de Trujillo), and jointly-administered by The British Council and Peru’s CONCYTEC funding bodies, the events will convene key scholars on environmental change and cultural adaptations in the use and safeguarding of water resources, especially in northern Peru – a region where rains and landslides, past and present, have caused great loss of life and livelihood. The activities, to be held in Trujillo over four days at the end of 2018, bring together experts from UK, EU and Latin American nations, as well as representatives from Peruvian ministries and development organisations, to formulate new understandings of and approaches to the difficulties of environmental change for western South America. A formal call for workshop places (esp. for UK and Peruvian young scholars), including support for accommodations and travel to Peru, will be announced shortly.
