Doctoral Research Grant Support

An endowment from the Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Art Trust, made in 1986 partly funds the Research Unit, and includes provision for postgraduate grants, scholarships and fellowships.

Robert Sainsbury Scholarship

For SRU PhD students, we are able to offer the Robert Sainsbury Scholarship. This is a three-year scholarship that covers university fees, living expenses and an allowance for fieldwork/travel. The scholarship will next be available in 2015. The Research Unit is also able to assist PhD students with smaller awards that usually supplement grants for other sources.

UEA Scholarships

The University of East Anglia administers different scholarships and bursaries for candidates commencing doctoral research. These competitive awards are restricted to candidates who have been offered a place to undertake research at UEA. Because the deadline for nominations is early March, applications should be submitted to us by 17 February. Applications from candidates received after this date will be considered for admission, but will likely be ineligible for UEA support.

Arts & Humanities Research Council

The SRU as part of the School of World Art Studies and Museology benefits from a block grant allocation by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Full scholarships, including fees and living costs are available to UK/EU applicants for PhD places at the SRU . Please contact the Admissions Secretary for further information
