I have carried out fieldwork with the Wauja Indians of the Upper Xingu river (1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005) and with urban and rural communities of the Peruvian Andes (2005, 2006), where I have produced documentary films and built ethnographic collections.
My current research project is an ethnographic approach to Andean Christianity at the crossroads of sensorial experience and conceptual imagination. This project converges two main theoretical axes. One is the recent anthropological efforts to understand Amerindian Christianity not as a cultural variation of (European) Christianity, but as an ontology in itself where specific socio-cosmological relations produce unique meanings. The second is how religious experiences are embedded in sensorial experience. Two other ethnographic problems that unfold from this major investigation are the empowerment and sacralization of places through pilgrimage and the conservation, restoration and display of ritual objects as cosmological processes.
